The Bang on a Can Music Institute at the NCCA (National Center for Contemporary Arts) in Moscow is a visceral, hands-on program dedicated entirely to the performance of adventurous contemporary music. We will play it, we will think about it, we will talk about it, and we will spend five days immersed in today's most exciting sounds. The Bang on a Can Music Institute in Moscow will bring together over a dozen performers from around Russia to participate in this program that emphasizes musical collaboration through workshops, seminars, rehearsals, and performances featuring young Russian musicians playing side-by-side in ensembles with the Bang on a Can All-Stars, who are some of today's leading and innovative contemporary American musicians. The Bang on a Can All-Stars have dedicated their lives to commissioning, rehearsing, recording and performing music beyond the cutting edge and are delighted with the opportunity to work alongside Russia's like-minded musicians.

The Bang on a Can Music Institute in Moscow is a community-building partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and the NCCA, bringing the creative and cooperative ethos of Bang on a Can's annual Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA to Moscow In addition to its immediate value for the participating musicians who will learn from their immersion in contemporary American music from master performers, the Bang on a Can Institute in Moscow offers promise for peaceful engagement, defying boundaries, bringing together musicians, composers, and audiences from across borders and around the world to create long-lasting musical friendships.

Bang on a Can applauds the NCCA's tireless efforts in bringing world-class contemporary art to the people of Russia. We are delighted to have been invited to help them build a bridge between countries and cultures, and also to help them build a bridge between the arts.
